Biography:
A sixth generation native New Orleanian, Shelley Stephenson Midura grew up in the Lakewood South and Mid-City areas and graduated from Isidore Newman School in 1984. After earning a Bachelor's Degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in 1988, Shelley began a career as a diplomat and worked overseas and in Washington, DC for more than 10 years.

In 2000, Shelley and a group of dedicated parents founded and opened the International School of Louisiana (ISL), the first foreign language-based charter school in the State of Louisiana. In 2004, Shelley was honored by "City Business" for her efforts on behalf of the school and was designated a member of the "Power Generation". The annual award recognizes the contributions of community leaders under age 40 to make New Orleans a better place to live. Shelley remained active as a member of the ISL Board of Trustees until May 2005.

She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Council of International Visitors, was a member of Loyola University's Institute of Politics Class of 2004, and studied classical piano with faculty of Loyola University's School of Music. She is a runner and successfully finished the Mardi Gras Marathon in 2004.

Shelley is married to Jonathan Midura, a computer software engineer and also a graduate of Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. They have three children: Redding (11), Justis (9), and Sophie (5). The family has lived in Lake Vista since their return to New Orleans nearly ten years ago.
